You should say: who this person is, what they do in the medical field, why they chose this career, and explain how you feel about this person.

I’d like to talk about my cousin Alex, who’s a doctor at a local hospital. He’s about fifteen years older than me, so we’re not particularly close, but our families live in the same city and visit each other fairly often, so I’ve known him pretty much all my life.
He sees patients with all sorts of health problems and, when necessary, sends them for further tests or refers them to a specialist. Since he’s the only doctor in our extended family, we sometimes ask him for advice when someone isn’t feeling well. It’s usually nothing too serious, but it’s reassuring to have someone you know who can give you a bit of guidance.
As for why he became a doctor, I’ve heard a bit about that at family gatherings. His older brother had some health problems when they were younger, so Alex spent quite a bit of time around hospitals, and I think that probably made medicine feel like a more familiar career choice. He eventually applied to medical school and went from there.
What I’ve noticed most about him is how patient he is. Going to the hospital can be quite stressful, especially when you’re worried about someone. You might not know which department you’re supposed to go to, where to wait, or even what’s going to happen next. So having Alex there to explain things and point us in the right direction makes the whole experience much easier. Whenever my family has had to go to the hospital, he’s been really helpful. He’ll explain what’s happening, tell us where we need to go, or just reassure us if we’re unsure about something. He never makes us feel like we’re bothering him.
So, although we’re not particularly close, I’m definitely glad to have him in the family. Whenever someone’s ill, it’s nice to know there’s someone we can call who knows what they’re talking about. And I think that’s probably what I appreciate most about having a doctor in the family.

The person who comes to mind is my friend Sarah, who I met back in our freshman year of university. We lived in the same dorm building and used to hang out quite a lot between classes. While I ended up going in a completely different direction, she always knew she wanted to work in healthcare, and she eventually became a dental hygienist at a private practice downtown.
Her day-to-day job is basically working directly with patients. She does cleanings, takes X-rays, checks for gum disease, and gives people advice on looking after their teeth. A lot of patients get really anxious at the dentist, so she’s quite good at putting them at ease. She’ll explain what she’s about to do, talk them through the procedure, and check in with them if they seem uncomfortable. I think that’s probably a pretty important part of her job, because people are much more relaxed when they know what’s happening.
As for why she chose this career, I remember her talking about it when we were at university. She knew she wanted to work in healthcare, but she didn’t really see herself becoming a doctor or working in a hospital. She liked the idea of having a hands-on job where she could work directly with people, and dental hygiene seemed like a good fit. She also liked the fact that it offered a fairly regular schedule, which was important to her.
Honestly, I’m really happy for her. I definitely couldn’t do her job myself. You need to be incredibly patient and careful when you’re working with tiny instruments in someone’s mouth, especially when the person is already nervous. Whenever we meet up after work, she seems genuinely happy with what she does, and I think that’s probably the main thing. It’s nice to see someone I’ve known since university find a career that actually suits her.
