Well, one incident that immediately springs to mind happened about a year ago when I lost my wallet at a shopping mall.
I remember it was a Saturday afternoon, and I’d gone to the mall with a couple of friends to do some shopping and grab something to eat. It was pretty crowded, as you’d expect on a weekend, and we were just wandering around, checking out different shops.
At some point, we stopped at a coffee shop to get a drink. I remember taking out my wallet to pay for my coffee, but I must have accidentally left it on the counter or dropped it somewhere without noticing. Anyway, about half an hour later, when we were in another store, I reached into my pocket to get some cash and suddenly realised it was gone.
Honestly, I started to panic a little because my wallet contained quite a bit of cash, my bank cards, and my driving licence. My first instinct was to retrace my steps, so I went back to all the shops we’d visited and asked the staff if anyone had handed in a wallet. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to have seen it.
Just when I was starting to lose hope, I decided to check with the customer service desk. And, luckily enough, someone had actually found my wallet and handed it in! I was absolutely relieved when they gave it back to me. I checked everything inside, and amazingly, nothing was missing.
Looking back, I think I was incredibly lucky. I felt quite embarrassed as well because I’d always considered myself a fairly careful person, and being so careless with something as important as my wallet was completely out of character for me.
But I suppose it taught me a valuable lesson: I should always keep a closer eye on my belongings, especially in crowded public places. Since then, I’ve made a habit of checking my pockets whenever I leave somewhere.

I’d like to tell you about a time I lost something that practically sent me into a full-blown crisis—my phone. This happened last autumn on a rainy Friday evening while I was commuting home after work.
I’d jumped on a crowded subway train during peak rush hour, completely distracted by my tote bag and umbrella. I managed to squeeze into a seat, slid my phone into my coat pocket, and zoned out. When the train reached my stop, I rushed off onto the platform. It wasn’t until I got to the exit barriers and checked my pocket that I realised it was completely empty.
A wave of pure panic immediately set in. In that split second, your whole life flashes before your eyes—your bank cards, photos, and messages. I frantically retraced my steps to the platform, but the train had already pulled away. Feeling completely helpless, I ran over to the station office to report it. Then, I used a friend’s phone to log into the “Find My” app. Seeing the icon moving along the subway line without being able to get to it was absolute torture. I spent the next hour repeatedly calling my own number, hoping that someone on the train would find my phone and pick up. But no one answered.
Emotionally, I was an absolute wreck. Beyond the sheer stress of losing an expensive piece of tech, I felt completely disconnected from the world and incredibly foolish for being so careless. It made me realise just how dependent I’d become on that little device for almost every aspect of my daily routine.
Luckily, someone had found it lying on the seat and handed it in at the station at the end of the line. I had to travel all the way to the main terminal station late that night to pick it up from Lost and Found. Relieved doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt when I finally got it back, but the whole experience was definitely a harsh reality check. It taught me to pay more attention to my surroundings instead of living on autopilot.
