One person who comes to mind is my older cousin, Daniel. He’s in his late twenties now and works as a landscape architect. As long as I can remember, he’s always been interested in environmental issues, and over the years, that interest has turned into a real passion for protecting nature.

What’s cool about Daniel is that it’s not just about big statements; it’s a mix of his everyday habits and grassroots community work. For instance, he’ll cycle to the office whenever he can, he’s meticulous about recycling, and he completely avoids single-use plastics. On top of that, he spends a lot of his weekends volunteering with a local environmental group, doing things like river clean-ups and tree-planting drives.

I think the key to how he manages it all is just pure consistency. He’s not someone who just rants about climate change on social media; He actually aligns his lifestyle to reduce his carbon footprint. I actually joined him for a tree-planting event a couple of years ago, and I remember being blown away by how much he knew about native wildlife. His enthusiasm was just so infectious when he was explaining why these pocket habitats matter.

What I admire most, though, is that he’s incredibly practical rather than judgmental. You know how some environmentalists can come across as a bit preachy or critical? Daniel isn’t like that at all. He just leads by example and cheers people on for making small changes. Because of him, I’ve definitely become way more conscious of my own waste. He’s just a massive role model for me, and he proves you can make a real difference without being loud about it.

I’d have to talk about my grandad, Arthur. He’s retired now and lives in a small coastal town, and over the last few years, he’s become really passionate about looking after the local marine environment.

What he mainly does is volunteer with a beach conservation group in his area. A few times a week, he goes down to the beach with other volunteers to collect litter and remove things like plastic bottles, food packaging, and fishing line that have washed ashore. It’s become a bit of a routine for him, and I think he genuinely enjoys spending time outdoors while doing something useful for the community.

As for how he does it, it’s mostly through small, consistent actions rather than anything dramatic. He’s always talking to people about being more careful with their rubbish, and he sometimes helps out at community events that raise awareness about pollution along the coastline. Whenever I visit him, he usually has a story about some strange item he’s found on the beach that week. I remember once he found an old rubber boot and spent the whole evening joking about who it might have belonged to.

What I really admire is his dedication. A lot of people care about environmental issues, but he actually gives up his time to do something about them. Even though he’s retired, he stays incredibly active and committed. He never tries to lecture anyone or tell people how to live; he just gets on with it and sets a good example.

Because of him, I’ve become much more aware of my own habits, especially when it comes to reducing waste and recycling properly. Overall, I think the world of him. He’s shown me that even small actions can make a difference, and I find that really inspiring.
