One meal I remember really well was a dinner I had with a few close friends about three months ago, right after we finished our final exams for the semester. We went to a small Japanese restaurant near my university. It wasn’t a fancy place at all—just a cozy little spot with a few wooden tables and a really relaxed atmosphere.
There were four of us in total. They’re friends I’ve known since my first year at university, so we’re pretty close. During the exam period, we were all extremely busy, so we barely had time to meet. That dinner was basically our way of celebrating the end of a stressful few weeks.
As for the food, we ordered quite a variety of dishes to share. I had a big bowl of ramen with a rich pork broth, along with some grilled chicken skewers and a plate of gyoza. We also shared a few side dishes like fried rice and a light cucumber salad. Everything tasted really fresh and flavorful.
The ramen was probably the highlight for me because the broth was incredibly rich and the noodles were perfectly cooked.
What made the meal so enjoyable wasn’t just the food, though. It was really the whole experience. After weeks of studying and worrying about exams, it felt great to just sit down, relax, and talk with my friends. We spent a couple of hours chatting, laughing, and sharing stories about how our exams went.
Looking back, it’s one of those simple moments that stays with you. It wasn’t a luxurious or expensive dinner, but the combination of good food, a comfortable atmosphere, and good company made it a really memorable experience.

One meal I really enjoyed was a dinner I had about six months ago at a small Chinese restaurant near my workplace.
It happened right after I had finished a really demanding project at work. I had been working long hours for a few weeks, so by the time it was over I felt completely exhausted. A colleague of mine, Sally, suggested that we go out for dinner to celebrate and just relax a little. She recommended this Chinese restaurant she liked, so we decided to try it.
In the end, it was just the two of us. We’ve worked together for a couple of years, so we’re quite comfortable around each other and can talk pretty freely. That evening we were both just happy to take a break from work and enjoy a quiet dinner.
As for the food, Sally helped choose most of the dishes since she was more familiar with the menu. We started with a smashed cucumber salad in a garlicky vinegar dressing, which was really refreshing. Then we had a spicy tofu dish with minced meat, which was probably the highlight of the meal because the tofu was incredibly soft and the sauce had a really rich, slightly spicy flavor. We also shared some warm steamed buns with condensed milk and had jasmine tea.
I think I enjoyed that meal so much mainly because of the timing. After weeks of stress at work, it felt great to finally relax, enjoy good food, and have a nice conversation. So overall, it was a simple dinner, but the combination of delicious food and good company made it really memorable.
